GREAT book!
Best resume and job search book I have ever read. Direct and to the point, without alot of fluff and flutter. Told me exactly what I needed to do and how to get it done to not only put together a quality resume quickly, but also how to get a better job very quickly. Great Idea! Love it. The book also posted some real deal resume with the author commenting the resume. Pretty good book.

Rainy Day Activity: How to Make Playdough, Bubbles, Monster Repellent and More!

Awsome
This is the best book of it's kind that I have ever seen. My daughter and I love to make all of the things in the book. They are easy and alot of fun. The bath paints have saved me a fortune, because we would buy them and go through them so quickly. This way I can make alot for very cheap and with her help she is learning her colors at the same time. The book is wonderful, highly recommended !

Keep This Book On Hand!
I had originally checked this book out of the library and didn't want to return it! So I bought it! I kept paging through the book and thinking "I should write this one down, and this, and this . . ." I would have written down every single activity! I keep it on the shelf next to the cook books, but most of the stuff isn't for eating. We liked the recipe for making sandcastles more permanant, how to color sugar for cakes or cookies, coloring sand, making paste, making your own stickers, terrific bubble solution, safe cleaning solutions for around the house and something I've been looking for. . . a recipe for making pretzels!

This is a must-have book, especially if you have kids of your own or you teach children. A terrific reference for all the craft projects you need to know to be a fun parent &/or teacher.

Although you may think this book is for young kids, it can really appeal to the teenaged set since it gives the concoctions needed for science projects, art or sculpting, making fun or weird food, theatrical makeup for acting, clowning or holloween.

Don't grow-up without it!

Ideas for children and adults alike, this book is wonderful!
Rainy Day Activity has plenty of ideas to keep kids and adults busy, no matter what the weather! The recipes for making clay, bubbles and other fun stuff has kept my daughter happily occupied. Her favorite recipe is for fake scars- you have to try it to believe it! There are many, many ideas here that cannot be found anywhere else. A fresh approach to "Mom, I'm bored!"

Red Twilight : The Last Free Days of the Ute Indians
Published in Paperback by Yellow Cat Publishing (23 October, 2000)
Authors: V. S. Fitzpatrick, Dalton Storm of Change Carr, and M. Wilson Reminiscences of Frontier Days Rankin
Average review score:

A window into a yesteryear of the western frontier
Red Twilight: The Last Free Days Of The Ute Indians is a remarkable eye-witness testament to the plight of the Ute Indians. Val FitzPatrick was born January 4, 1886 and lived to the age of 102. All his life was spent in northwestern Colorado and gave him an intimate knowledge of the Northern Utes (especially the Whiteriver band) after their encounter with the white man's culture. FitzPatrick provides the modern reader with a window into a yesteryear of the western frontier during the time of white settlers displacing the Utes from the homelands. This is an account more accurate and compelling that those of the newspaper journalists of the day were able to print. Very highly recommended for personal and academic Native American studies collections, Red Twilight is enhanced with a rare oral history by one of the Ute warriors who fought in the Battle of Milk Creek; excerpts from the diary of early cowboy Wils Rankin (nephew of Joe Rankin, scout of the ill-fated Major Thornburg); and a special section describing life on the Uintah-Ouray Reservation in the 1950s and 60s.

A remarkable eye-witness testament, highly recommend!

The story as it REALLY happened. Fascinating!
This book is unique - it tells the story of the removal of the Ute Indians from a sympathetic viewpoint, and by one who was there. Val FitzPatrick was a settler in northwest Colorado when the Utes were displaced into Utah and forced from their ancestral homelands. The real story is different from what white history records.

Well written, great reading, and fascinating first-hand stories. If you like reading about the West and its history or American Indians, you can't go wrong here. The author was there and is a great writer. He personally knew the Utes. Winner of an award from the Utah Humanities Council and used in their diversity program. I also highly recommend FitzPatrick's other book, "The Arbuckle Cafe: Classic Cowboy Stories."

Reflections on Ascension: Channeled Teachings of St. Francis
Published in Paperback by Oughten House Publications (March, 1998)
Authors: Anina Davenport, Francis, and Tony Stubbs
Average review score:

I loved it.
One of the features that I most appreciate in Reflections on Ascension is it's accessability. Thanks to Anina's introduction and practical comments throughout, one can easily recommend this book to someone not familliar with, but open to the concept of Ascension. But perhaps my favorite feature of the book is the light-hearted wit shown by St. Francis and Anina. No doom. No gloom. That we can learn and grow through joy and humor is such a Blessed message. Thank you St. Francis and Anina.

A valuable book for these challenging times.
I've read and reread this book. It is simply stated and yet there is so much helpful information here which can clarify and assist us as we try to integrate and balance the challenge of living as a spirutual being in a human body.

This is an excellent book!
Anina has brought through the gentle energies and wise teachings of St. Francis. The words help to guide me through the ascension process and help me to understand the new frequencies now available on planet Earth. Some of my favorite teachings are: how to relax, unconditional acceptance, how to trust myself, and how I create from my intentions. I'm looking forward to REFLECTIONS II.

The Richmond Campaign of 1862: The Peninsula and the Seven Days (Military Campaigns of the Civil War)
Published in Hardcover by Univ of North Carolina Pr (September, 2000)
Author: Gary W. Gallagher
Average review score:

Insightful essays about Richmond Campaign
I agree with an earlier reviewer who writes that this book is a great companion (or follow-up) book to Stephen Sears "To the Gates of Richmond". Mr. Sears books gives a vivid account of the overall campaign, while this book offers some insightful essays about certain aspects of the campaign. The authors are all experts in the field, and offer well written essays for the reader to contemplate.

I really enjoyed this book because the authors cover a wide range of topics to include General McClellan's flawed performance, "Stonewall" Jackson's less than stellar leadership during the campaign, the artillery battle at Malvern Hill, "Prince" John Magruder's struggles, and the affect of the campaign on both Northern and Southern society. These detailed essays offer readers the latest and greatest scholarship about the Richmond campaign. They really helped me gain a much deeper understanding about what the campaign was like, why it was so important to the overall war effort (for both sides), and most importantly, how did if affect those involved.

I highly recommend this book for those "students" of the Civil War (like me) who are looking to gain a richer grasp of the events that happened during the Richmond campaign. If you have not read anything about the Richmond campaign (usually referred to as the Pennisula and Seven Days campaign) then I suggest that you read "To the Gates of Richmond" by Stephen Sear first, then this book.

Fascinating Detail on Key Battles , Leaders and Politics
Great book to read after Stephen Sear's Penninsula Campaign (even noted by the editor). This great collection of CW historians take the leading characters and events of the 7 days campaign and provide insights to this fascinating series of battles that set the Union back three years. Fascinating writing of John Bankhead Magruder, the hero of the lower Peninsula, whose prewar reputation for drink and ladies combined with lack of sleep, stress, illness and improper medical treatment created a magnifyer for his failures particularly at Malvern Hill. Lee's desire to rid himself of Magruder who was a hero just weeks before is in stark contrast to his retaining of Stonewall who as R. K. Krick writes was virtually ineffective for a multitude of reasons, primarily due to sleep deprivation. Also, great essays on McClellan whose grandiose ego was not able to stand upright on the battlefield and his engineers who could build anything he needed but were used as scapegoats just like anyone else to excuse his own conduct. Additional essays are on the great importance of the seven days battles to lift southern morale and the enhancement of the radicals position contributed to by McClellan's failures during the campaign. Superb article on the artillery duel on Malvern Hill and confederate attack that collapsed under murderous and accurate union artillery fire. The Union's artillery was no match for its southern counterparts. R.E.L. Krick highlights Whiting's Division (with Hood) breaking the Union line decisively at Gaines Mill. No one knows the battlefield better than Krick. Longstreet may have wished he never picked up a pen after Krick writes of Longstreet's post war confusion of facts over his command of Whiting, "It appears an unusually early example of the gasconade for which Longstreet is now famous". That commentary would have made "Old Jube" proud.

Nine essays exploring questions regarding high command
The April-July 1862 Richmond campaign was a critical point in the American civil war that resulted in more than 50,000 casualties, 35,000 of whom fell in seven days (June 26 - July 1). The Richmond Campaign Of 1862: The Peninsula & The Seven Days offers nine essays exploring questions regarding high command, strategy and tactics, the effects of the fighting upon the politics and society of both the Union and the Confederacy, and the ways in which emancipation figured in the campaign. Included is an invaluable analysis of the Richmond campaign's place in the broader sweep of the war in 1862, assessments of George B. McClellan's generalship and Stonewall Jackson's flawed performance, an examination of the campaign's impact on white and black civilians in the region, the role of the engineers in the Union effort, the role of artillery in the battle of Malvern Hill, and more. Highly recommended for personal and academic Civil War studies reading lists and reference collections, The Richmond Campaign Of 1862 is an impressive work of painstaking, informative, insightful scholarship.

How Fun!
This is a book that took my kids and I on an exciting journey filled with fantastic characters! Rochester & Merle are there to save the day!

Great Story
Rochester & Merle are two of the most exciting ghosts around. My two kids had a great time with this story, they laughed and giggled! Rochester & Merle had some great ideas to get back at Mr. Greenfinger!

Really enjoyed this book!
Rochester and Merle are great characters, and it was so much fun to see them give Mr. Greenfinger a taste of his own medicine. It is so nice to hear the giggles coming from your children during Rochester & Merle's silly pranks! Great Book!

Roger the Red-Banded Raccoon: Roger and Rosie's First Day Out!

Great for beginner readers
I have to say i am a little biased in my opinion about the book....my oldest daughter Lauren is the author of the poem in the front of the book...of which i am very proud...my younger daughters Emily age 71/2 and Katie age 3 absolutely love the book...Emily is a beginner reader and loves to read the book to her younger sister..it not only helps her with her reading it encourages her younger sister to do the same as well as teaches them about listening to your parents and the events that follow all your choices...I am trying to place the book in Emily's school library of which i am certain will make a wonderful addition. Emily is already anxious to read more about Roger and Rosie, of which I am glad to hear her say...Mom...i want to read it again! We need more books to stimulate reading in our children. Thanks again for this wonderful addition.

Andrea's review
I am a Speech Therapist for the Lafourche Parish School Board and enjoy reading this book to all my speech impaired children! (They also love it!) It is a wonderful book to teach vocabulary, problem solving, critial thinking, predicting possible outcomes and comprehension skills. The book takes you on a journey that is taken by 2 little raccoons. This journey is taken after their mother tells them to stay inside their home while she is away. The 2 explore the outside world alone and learn about different dangers. They are very scared and realize a very valuable lesson of listening to their mother. They are also taught that dangers are harmful and should be avoided. I recommend this book to all speech therapists, teachers and parents! Your kids will love to hear about this wonderful adventure!

A Very Good Life Learning Tool for Kids
I consider this book to be a 'very good life learning tool' to assist parents in teaching kids the difference in wrong and right. In order to accomplish that mission in teaching through reading, one must create a character (roger the raccoon) that will capture and hold the attention of a child. A raccoon is an animal that is easily identified by a child due to the black rings around its eyes. The character must be unique for that specific animal to be identified as the only one of its kind (red-banded tail); such as Big Bird. When a child thinks of Roger, he or she will remember the lessons learned by Roger and his life experiences that relate to the child that is reading or listening to the book being read.

Best Travel Book I've read
This book is unlike any other Travel Planning Book. It is descriptive and puts you right in the heart of the atmosphere! I picked this up on a whim with my traditional Frommers Travel Guide. I hardly have used Frommers at all for this upcoming trip. This book is all I need!!!! My husband and I have been reading the "itineraries" aloud to each other in anticipation of our trip. That way we can pop a post-it flag on the activities that spark our interest and plan out our own custom itinerary a few days before leaving. I love this book and guarantee our weekend trip will be more memorable because of this book!!! If you are planning a trip to New Orleans, buy it - you won't regret it!!!

This book saved our Honeymoon!
This book turned a stroke of bad luck on our honeymoon into a honeymoon we will remember. Our original plans were to do a 7-day cruise, but after flying to Miami and getting an hour out to sea, the engine on our ship broke and the whole cruise was cancelled. We flew back home the next day and decided we would drive to New Orleans. We picked this book up that night and it helped us plan an entire new honeymoon at the last minute. We stayed at the Hampton Inn as described in Itinerary 16, which is just a block and a half from the French Quarter. Thursday morning we took the excellent Cemetery and Voodoo walking tour found in Itinerary 6. That afternoon we had our own perfumes and colognes created for us at Bourbon French Parfums (Itinerary 3). Friday we attempted to follow Day Two of Itinerary 16. The Zoo is gorgeous and very romantic, but don't get fooled into taking the timeshare tour that they will offer you at the harbor where you get your zoo\aquarium tickets. Saturday we stayed at the Victoria Inn from Itinerary 27. What a great place! It's beautiful and moderately priced. The Bayou boat tour (also Itinerary 27) was the highlight of the trip. We got to see dolphins swimming right along the boat! That night's dinner at Restaurant Des Familles was very good too. All of these ideas came from this book and helped make our honeymoon a romantic and memorable one. If you ever plan on going to New Orleans, or returning, this is the book to have.

Great for the tourist or local
We are new to the area and too busy to explore without something too reference. This has made exploring our new town very easy and exciting. I recommend this book for people coming to New Orleans for a long weekend.

Roses Are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink

Valentine's Day with a Message
Gilbert has a real dilemma. He's writing poems on his Valentine cards, for his classmates, but doesn't want to write something nice to Lewis and Margaret. Lewis tweaked his nose and made it red and Margaret said mean things about him in front of the class. So he decides to write each an unkind poem and instead of signing his own name, since he's afraid they'll be angry, he signs Lewis's name to Margaret's card and Margaret's name to Lewis's Valentine. It doesn't take long before Margaret and Lewis figure out who really gave them these mean cards and they, along with the rest of the class won't have anything to do with Gilbert. First he has to eat lunch all alone, no one will sit with him and at then at recess, no one will play with him. As soon as he gets back to class, Gilbert gets to work making new cards for Lewis and Margaret and apologizing for his unkindness. As the class party begins all is forgiven and Lewis, Margaret and Gilbert are friends again..... Diane De Groat has written a simple, charming story with a powerful message about the importance of second chances, that youngsters 4-8 will easily understand. Her gentle text and wonderful watercolor illustrations really capture the small hurts and slights kids experience and her positive, uplifting ending and sensible solution should open good discussions at home and at school.

A good story to teach about other's feelings
I really enjoyed this book. It shows how sometimes getting even may not be the best solution. Sometimes children don't realize how what they do can affect others. In this story, Gilbert learns this lesson the hard way. He sends two not-so-nice valentines to two of his classmates who had done something ugly to him. Instead of making him feel better, he ends up feeling awful. His classmates didn't want to be friends with someone who would say mean things about others. He swallows his pride and makes new valentines to apologize for the way he acted. This book is a good way to integrate character education in elementary school. It has a serious message but does not come across too strong.

Valentines are hearts....
Make yours good from the start. Kids will love the funny (and sometimes not so nice) rhymes. The watercolors are charming and the message is good. Gilbert discovers that what appears to be meanness is often just a misunderstanding. He also learns that two wrongs don't make a right. The author conveys these "feel good" messages without being too heavy handed. This is a great book to read with your children before they embark on writing their own valentines.

A diamond in the rough...
What a concept... a valentine's card that want's to be loved... not as deep as the Velveteen Rabbit perhaps, but T.Smythe's illustrations put a lot of soul into an otherwise ridiculous premise... it's a great book to bring out for kids on valentine's day and it encourages them to be creative and use their imagination--once again thanks to T.Smythe's illustrative flair... she's no novice at this! It's a shame we've been waiting so long to see her work... can't wait to see her next project...

My Funny Valentine
This book is funny, attractive, and charming. The illustrations by Theresa Smythe add even more life to a good story. My children flipped over the bright colors and textures. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Best book about a Runaway Valentine EVER!
This is the funniest book, with the most clever illustrations. Theresa Smythe's illustrations are hysterical. This book is a must for your kid's Valentine present. But don't wait until then to check this book out!
